As you may have noticed Makin' Lemonade: A Guide for Choiceful Living was just released on its 25th birthday. I'm gathering reviews now to share with you, yet, I want to share this one in particular. It is from 2001, the original workbook -- I don't know who wrote the review, yet I am very grateful for their level of detail and sharing of their experience. Please read onward, and by all means, if this speaks to you, please get yourself a copy of my book where ever you buy books or at kerifitzpatrickbooks.com
Are you interested in total well-being? Do you want to lead a balanced life? If so, _Makin' Lemonade: A Guide For Choiceful Living_ is the best resource for you. I have gained from Ms. Fitzpatrick's book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in personal growth. Ms. Fitzpatrick leads you through a journey of self-discovery that explores eight life areas. The Insight-Based Learning Approach requires you to reflect on questions and answer them. Areas of change are identified and an action plan is developed. At any level of life, you can use _Makin' Lemonade_ for continued growth. Reaching the "gestalt" in your life will not be acquired through passive work, but active, reflective, and committed work.
The goal to total well being is to balance all of your life areas because they must work in harmony with each other. These eight areas are physical, emotional, intellectual, social and relational, spiritual, vocational and educational.
Ms Fitzpatrick leads you through a series of self awareness exercises by exploring beliefs, feelings, and thought processes. Then you identify areas that need change. Finally, an action plan is developed that includes strategies to help you work towards your goals.
Many of the exercises parallel what is done in counseling. Insight-Based Learning has been a successful approach for me because the steps are manageable, and I felt better with each one. I never realized what blocks I had built around me. I thought I was happy, but in reality, I was out of touch with myself. I have to say that some of these exercises were painful for me, BUT I have grown so much. I began to feel empowered. I learned what things took "power" away from me and strategies to deal with those situations.
Now I pick up _Makin' Lemonade_ and work through several exercises a night. It is exciting to acknowledge my growth and see how my thoughts have changed. However, I have found that this type of work is ongoing. That's what so beneficial about this workbook. You can continue exploring your thinking processes, feelings, and decisions.
I have practiced these exercises for the last six years, so I have learned strategies to deal with fear, pain, problem solving, relationships, and communication. I can attest to the personal growth I have gained through working through the Fitzpatrick's _Makin' Lemonade_. If you desire total well being, this is the resource for you. Remember it takes commitment to learn about yourself and develop an action plan. Growth is not always an easy trip, but it is a worthwhile one.
The strategies taught in _Makin Lemonade: A Guide For Choiceful Living_ work!
